YouTube to Launch First-Ever Live Music Awards Show!

On Sunday, November 3, YouTube will host the first-ever YouTube Music Awards, a 90-minute live-streamed event that will give back to the artists and songs that you have turned into hits over the past year. The Google-owned company will be handing out seven awards to nominees who over the past year garnered the biggest slice of YouTube views, shares and other metrics of online love.

In mid-October, YouTube Music Awards Nominations will be announced based on the videos that you watched and shared over the past year. Once selected, YouTube will turn to the community again to share the nominees across social media so the awards are judged in full view of everyone.

Actor Jason Schwartzman will host the program, which will unfold live at Pier 36 in New York; details will be shared later this month on how fans can apply for tickets. Lady Gaga, Eminem, and Arcade Fire will join other top artists and some of YouTubes biggest stars including Lindsey Stirling and CDZA in performances and musical collaborations from Seoul, Moscow, London and Rio, culminating at the live event in New York City.

This is a very interesting idea and it could rival the Grammys or the MTV Video Music Awards if it takes off! YouTube wants this to be an “unconventional” awards show, so we will have to tune in to see what they have in store!
