Windows 8 Release Preview Leaks Out Just a Few Days Before Official Version

By

Microsoft’s Windows 8 Release Preview build 8400 has unsurprisingly been leaked over the internet, but is apparently a legitimate version according to various reports. However, it’s the Chinese edition. All is not lost though, because it can have the English language pack installed via Windows Update. The official release time frame for this version is the first week of June, with many people assuming that it’s going to be Monday June 4. However, speculation now has it at June 1 instead, fueled by the build date of May 18.

This new build has improvements in the areas of Metro apps, including new sports, travel and news apps. There are also updated boot screens, cursors and wallpapers, plus a new version of Aero before it’s killed off for the final version. Makes one wonder why Microsoft continue to develop it then, doesn’t it? Will it still be present as an option in the control panel in the release version? Hopefully, but doesn’t seem very likely. As usual, it’s probably not wise to install software from an unofficial source, since it may well contain malware of some kind. Not long to wait now anyway for the legitimate product.

Microsoft is due to hold a keynote at Computex on June 6th designed to focus on future Windows 8 hardware, but it’s entirely possible that we’ll see an English Release Preview officially or via less legitimate routes before then.
