Will the Next Apple iPhone be made out of Glass?

There is a recent patent from Apple that shows a portable computing device made with an all glass enclosure. There are some definite pros and cons to this idea. One of the first benefits that comes to mind is that the glass enclosure can be completely sealed up and be totally water tight. The largest drawback is that an all glass case would be much more fragile than a comparable case in aluminum or titanium. Ultimately if this idea comes to pass, Apple would undoubtedly have to us a super durable glass like Corning Gorilla glass.

Thought all those shattered screens and iPhone 4 backplates would push Apple towards making mobile devices machined from aluminum like its laptops and tablets? Think again, friends, because a newly published patent application from Cupertino indicates the company is considering crafting portable computing devices out of glass. The app claims a “substantially seamless enclosure . . . extruded in its entirety with glass material” so that wireless signals can freely flow to and fro, along with a method for manufacturing such a device.
