Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShip Two Completes First Captive Flight

The VSS Enterprise was unveiled last December and flew for the first time today out of the Mohave Spaceport in Southern California. The early morning flight lasted for almost three hours and achieved an altitude of 45,000 feet. The VSS Enterprise test flights will continue through 2011, moving from captive carry (todays experiment), to independent glide, and then fully powered flight, before commercial operations begin.

Sir Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Galactic was equally pleased with todays flight and said it was no surprise the ground-breaking vehicle flew so well. Virgin Galactic says it has already taken in around $45 million in deposits for space flights from more than 330 people.
