Verizon’s 4G LTE Network Experiences First Nationwide Outage

By

Verizon Wireless on Wednesday said it was investigating connection problems with its 4G LTE network, the company’s first known outage since launching the high-speed broadband network in December. Not bad, but certainly not the welcoming that all of the new Thunderbolt users were expecting. One of our staff members here in St. Louis has a Thunderbolt that was stuck on 1X service, if he could get service at all. he though it was due to storms in the area, but that isn’t the case. Wouldn’t you think the Thunderbolt could work in bad weather? If you want to get 3G service back you can try this little trick out. It looks like it will get you back on 3G and off 1xRTT.

The company’s corporate Twitter account wrote, “Investigating 4G LTE network issue; ThunderBolts making voice calls, may get slower 1xRTT data. Will update here.” In areas without 4G connection, the phones will default to Verizon 3G. Hours later, Verizon’s Support account tweeted, “We are aware of an issue with 4G and LTE connections & our network engineers are working to resolve quickly.” In an earlier tweet, it said that the outage in Dalton, Georgia, was due to “inclement weather.”
