V-MODA True Blood REVAMP Headphones Review
A Closer Look At REVAMP
From what we can tell the REVAMP is a redesign of the popular Remix Audio headphones also made by V-MODA. On both sides of the ear buds you’ll find subtle Japanese symbols that the company took from the Tru Blood beverage seen on the show that. The two characters mean ‘truth’ and ‘blood’ in case you are wondering. Underneath V-MODAs BLISS (Bass Level Isolating Soft Silicone) noise-isolating technology you’ll notice that each ear bud is labeled L or R, so you’ll know which ear to use them on. V-MODA BLISS technology is said to further reduce outside noise and enable deep punchy bass for the ultimate audio experience.
Above the symbols you’ll see V-MODA branding with the company name on one side and REVAMP on the other.
You can remove the medial-grade soft black silicone fittings and replace them with one of the four different sizes that are included. You are going for comfort here, so try a few of them and be sure to pick the one that best fits your ear canal. The four pairs that are included are XS, S, M and L.
V-Moda uses a tuned 9mm V-MASQUE neodymium driver that each has been verified to strict consistency standards to deliver vibrant bass, vivid mids, and vivacious highs. The audio quality from these headphones are impressively balanced with both the bass and the highs getting equal opportunities to shine. Usually, on cheaper models they offer either too much bass, one speaker might actually sound different than the other or the sound is distorted or muffled due to cheap components. The V-MODA REVAMP offers exceptional sound across the entire range, but their sweet spot is certainly the mids. If we could change any of the acoustical properties of the REVAMP it would be to increase the bass just a smidge.

At first glance the housing looked to be sealed, but V-MODA uses an airflow system called the ‘BEATPORT’ to deliver a 3D soundstage that is said to give you the sense
of a listening to live music. This picture also shows the 2.2mm Kevlar reinforced cable that is built 3x-10x stronger than normal cables. V-MODA says this Kevlar reinforced cable can survive 60,000+ bends and that the REVAMP is built to last under strict military testing guidelines (MIL-STD-810G). This makes sense for a product that True Blood fans want as immortal durability and the allure of everlasting life is all the rage.
The 1-button microphone is a nice touch to have on ear buds and we didn’t notice it at first, but it’s shaped like a silver bullet! When using the play/pause button we had no problems on our Apple iPhone/iPad or Google Android Gingerbread/Honeycomb devices, but we did find that it wouldn’t work on our Microsoft Zune HD or on a Widows 7 notebook PC with Windows Media Player. If you plan on using this with Apple or Android devices you should be good to go, but with older devices and some operating systems the button might not work. The first time we used the play/pause button we thought it would only to that, but after reading the instructions we found that you can click it
twice to track forward or three times to track backward. If you hold
the button down on the second or third tap, the Revamps will fast
forward and rewind, respectively. During phone calls, the center button picks
up and hangs up, declines incoming calls, and switches back and forth
via call waiting.
If you plan on using the V-MODA REVAMPs on your smartphone then you’ll likely be using the microphone on that is located inside the silver bullet. As with any microphone built-in like this it works well if you aren’t moving, but if it bumps or brushes along your clothes while you move around it will sound bad. This isn’t a deal breaker as you just need to hold it away from your body when talking or clip it someplace that works with the supplied clip.
