Recharging The Battery

After the battery was completely drained we plugged the Ultra 2000VA UPS back in and started to time how long it takes to fully recharge. We plugged the UPS back in at 18:40 hours (6:40pm) and wanted to see how long it would take the battery to re-charge back up to 90%. According to the Ultra website it should be back up to 90% capacity in six hours.

After pluggin in the Ultra 2000VA at 6:40pm I went about my evening and eventually went to sleep at midnight when it was obvious that it wasn’t going to reach a battery level of 90% any time soon. Much to my amazement at 9am the next morning the Ultra 2000VA UPS was only at 89%. So 14.5 hours later the UPS is still charging when the specifications state that a typical recharge time is six hours!

Forty minutes later at 9:40, 15 hours into the recharge, the UPSMON software showed that the battery level was still at 89%. At 9:58am the battery level finally reached 90%. This was 15 hours 18 minutes after the UPS was plugged back in.
