Twitter says Spam Drastically Reduced

By

Twitter is becoming a social standard, with 50 million tweets daily that is plainly seen, and with that popularity comes thousands of users trying to take advantage. If you use twitter and make several tweets per day at least, I’m sure you’ve had some curious-looking followers that only post URLs or direct message you with a blatantly automated message thanking you for following them. Twitter acknowledges this problem and throughout 2009 and into 2010 has been actively trying to cut it down, below is a chart showing the percentage of tweets per day throughout the months that were nothing more than annoying spam. Hopefully one day twitter will become spam-free, the day will not be tomorrow, but at least twitter is working at it.

Twitter Spam Reduction Throughout 2009

Posting harmful links to phishing or malware sites, repeatedly posting duplicate tweets, and aggressively following and un-following accounts to attract attention are just a few examples of spam on Twitter. Like it or not, as the system becomes more popular, more and more spammers will try to do their thing. We’re constantly battling against spam to improve the Twitter experience and we’re happy to report that it’s working.
