Twitch Prime Changes and not for the Better
Twitch is announcing some changes to Twitch Prime that subscribers wont like. Twitch says that it has re-evaluated some of its existing Prime benefits and that universal ad-free viewing will no longer be part of the Twitch Prime benefits. The removal of ad-free viewing will no longer be part of Prime for new members starting on September 14.
This means that Twitch Prime monthly subscriptions will continue to get ad-free viewing until October 15. If subscribers have an annual subscription or those who upgrade to annual from monthly memberships before September 14 will continue to get ad-free viewing until their next renewal date.
Twitch says that none of the other Prime benefits will be changing including monthly channel subs, monthly games and loot, and chat badges. As for why ad-free is being eliminated, Twitch says that advertising is an important part of supporting creators that use the service. It seems that Twitch wants to lure in content creators that may be staying away due to less ad revenue than platforms like YouTube.
After the ad-free viewing is eliminated from Prime, fans wanting to keep an ad-free service will have to upgrade to Twitch Turbo. Twitch Prime members will continue to get channel-specific ad-free viewing as part of Prime by using their monthly subscription token on a channel with ad-free viewing for subscribers turned on.
