Trying Out The Tritton AX 180

I found the Tritton AX 180 very easy to hook up. Depending on what ports are available to you, you can use either the microphone plug or the USB microphone device, which are selectable from the inline audio controller. In either case, you need to keep the USB plugged in to power the inline amplifier.

I tried it out on my laptop first and used the USB microphone. Initially, before enabling the mic, I listened to some tunes. The Tritton AX 180 are first an excellent pair of over the ear headphones. Their amplifier is essentially silent with just the slightest hiss, discernable only when youre listening for it, and excellent bass response. I would have no problem wearing these as headphones and listening for hours.

Since the microphone is easily inserted and removed, these would make excellent headphones with a mic that you can add in an instant. Enabling the USB microphone brings a slight whine that subsided quickly. As a test, I loaded up my favorite audio editor and made some recordings of my voice. The microphone worked great and provided crystal clear results.

Since this is a gaming headset, I had to fire up the games I loaded up Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and joined up to a multiplayer game. The game sound was clear and the ability to control the game and chat volume separately was quite useful. The AX 180 is a solid performer and gave me rich game sound while allowing clear communication with those that also had microphones.
