Toyota Recalls Another 2 Million Vehicles in U.S.

By

Toyota is recalling 2.17 million vehicles in the United States to address the threat of accelerator pedals becoming jammed. This recall will affect 4Runner models sold between 2003 and 2009, as well as over 700,000 RAV4 SUVs and Lexus SUVs sold between 2006 and 2008. Toyota is also recalling Highlander Highlander Hybrids, Lexus RX330, RX350, and RX400h SUVs sold between 2004 and 2007. SUVs are not the only ones affected either since about 20,000 model 2006 through 2007 Lexus GS sedans are being recalled as well to adjust the shape of the plastic pad in the drivers side carpet. The issue is the carpet could shift while driving and potentially interfere with the accelerator.

Toyota Recall

The recalls show that Toyota is still bedeviled by issues surrounding unintended acceleration, which last year resulted in the recall of hundreds of thousands of cars to replace floor mats that can jam against accelerator pedals or replace pedal mechanisms that can stick. The government, however, this month reported that it can find no evidence that Toyota’s electronic throttle systems are at fault for unintended acceleration.
