Today Marks The One-Year Anniversary of AMD Ryzens Launch
Today marks the one-year anniversary of AMDs launch of Ryzen! Over the past 12 months, AMD has launched over 20 Ryzen processors and to say they were disruptive at every price point is an understatement. AMD successfully reinvigorated the CPU market at a time when enthusiasts were used to seeing minimal IPC (Instructions Per Cycle) gains from any CPU manufacturer. Ryzen achieved an unheard of 52% IPC improvement and that is the highest increase in generational performance that we have seen in the 15 years that Legit Reviews has been online.
Below are just some of last years Ryzen highlights:
- March: Launched Ryzen desktop processors into the market with Ryzen 7, bringing innovation and excitement back to the industry
- April: Launched Ryzen 5 desktop processors, introducing disruptive levels of compute performance at a variety of price points
- June: Announced the Ryzen PRO desktop processors lineup designed to meet the demands of today’s compute-intensive workplaces with commercial grade features
- July: Completed the Ryzen desktop processors lineup with the release of Ryzen 3 targeting the mainstream desktop market
- August: Surprised everyone with the announcement of the highest-performance desktop processor ever, with Ryzen Threadripper
- October: Introduced Ryzen Mobile processors with Radeon Vega Graphics, featuring the worlds fastest processor for ultrathin notebook, powering Acer Swift 3, HP Envy X360, and Lenovo IdeaPad 720S notebooks
- February: Launched Ryzen Desktop APUs, combining high-performance Radeon Vega Architecture with Zen CPU cores on a single chip for discrete graphics gaming performance in an APU
AMD doesn’t plan on slowing down and has already revealed an aggressive Ryzen desktop processor roadmap for 21018. At CES 2018, AMD announced that the 2nd generation of Ryzen CPUs would be released in April 2019. These will be AMDs first 12nm processor based on the refined “Zen+” architecture. After that they said Ryzen PRO Mobile is coming in Q2 and the 2nd generation Ryzen Threadripper is slated for sometime in 2H 2018.
