The Koolance Exos-2
Final Thoughts
Well, the results speak for themselves, the Exos-2 is definitely a top of the line cooling system. Though not cheap, the Exos-2 and Koolance’s line of water blocks simply put are incredible, showing awesome performance across the board with our test system at everything we threw at them.
I do have to say, with the external kit running over $300, and the component blocks pushing the overall price to around $500, this system is definitely not for the casual user. However, for those of you who need and want the very best for your cherished system, yet who can’t afford the time or money to invest in extreme cooling solutions like LN2, Dry Ice, or Phase Change, the Exos-2 is about the best you can find.
I really liked the idea of the Koolance Hydra Packs, I found them to be very effective at cooling the entire video card where most kits focus mainly on the GPU, and occasionally the memory. I also like how it was implemented into the HDD kit, a real improvement over Koolance’s initial HDD cooling solution. I also feel that right now this is far and away superior to anything else available on the market right now. I think the rotating heads are a great idea. Not every system lays out the same, and the ability to rotate the block heads really allows you to use any configuration available without worrying about a crimped hose or a block that simply won’t seat well.
I didn’t care for the temperature probes, as they can’t be seated near the core enough; any temperature reading they give won’t be representative of the systems actual core temperature. I honestly would completely do away with the probes and use some sort of software that monitors different system temperatures.
Lastly, the system as a whole is the quietest and most efficient cooler I have seen. From near silent operation at lower fan speeds to better than expected noise levels at the highest fan speeds, the Exos-2 was a pleasure to use, and much quieter than my air cooled system with three case fans, the big ATI X850 XT cooler, and a Zalman CNPS 7700 CPU cooler.
The Legit Bottom Line
Price be damned, if you are looking for the best water cooling solution on the market, the Koolance Exos-2 definitely should be tops on a very short list. With a great looking external kit, a wide variety of water blocks, and Koolance’s vast experience in the field, the Exos-2 won’t disappoint.
