Tesoro Kuven.pro True 5.1 Gaming Headset Review
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
The hallmark of our experience with the Tesoro Kuven.pro was how comfortable it was to wear. For us, the surround sound wasnt all too special. Instead it was being able to game for hours with this bulky and moderate heavy headset. The clamping pressure is well distributed as a result of articulate joints and memory foam padding on the earcups and headband.
The reason why the surround sound capabilities of the Kuven.pro werent close to spectacular is because the speakers are too close to each other. The idea of scaling down an entire home surround sound theater into a headphone and controller/sound cardlooks good on paper, but its ineffective in practice. The sound of different channels coming from the different speakers is barely noticeable and its hard to determine the simulated audio positioning with so much sound flooding such a small earspace.
The Kuven.pros sound quality is actually quite good and is on the level offered by other high end gaming headsets. The flat audio character is tuned for competitive gaming and the listener can focus on sounds produced naturally such as human movement without being inundated with bass treble. Unfortunately, that music can be quite boring to listen to without equalization. It would be beneficial if Tesoro added equalizer presets to the controller so that music, movies, and even story driven games can benefit from livelier audio on the press of a button. The headset responded very readily to our equalization settings through media players and the audio character can be easily shaped to enhance music and movies.
Tesoro gave this headset an identity thats easy to understand. Reasonable tradeoffs to the audio tuning that focus on a more competitive audio experience and the comfortable headset design earn the Kuven.pro readily receives a recommendation from us. We cant comment on the durability of the headset since we havent used it long enough, but it should be expected that the points of weakest structural integrity are at the joints. The high-end performance and design of the Kuven.pro expectedly commands a high-end pricing. This headset currently can be purchased from either Newegg or the Tesoro Gaming web store for $109.99 with free shipping, a price where the Kuven.pro is quite competitive.
Legit Bottom Line: The Tesoro Kuven.pro is ridiculously comfortable and its sound quality holds lots of potential.
