Synology Launches DiskStation DS1010+ 5-bay NAS Server

By

Synology today launched, the new five-bay DiskStation DS1010+, which boasts write speeds that are 250% faster than its predecessor (the DS509+), includes the power of DSM open firmware, expands up to 10 bays and is specifically designed for businesses with growing storage needs who want an affordable alternative to a PC file server to centralize data backups, protect critical assets and share files remotely. Designed with scalability in mind, the DS1010+ can expand its storage capacity horizontally from 5 bays to 10 bays whenever more storage is needed using the separate DX510 Expansion Enclosure. Furthermore, using RAID-1, 5 or 6 volume-types, disks can be migrated to larger-sized disks, without loss of data. Whether adding additional disks, or migrating to larger size disks, the DS1010+ with its companion DX510 provide a total storage capacity of 20TB.

The DiskStation DS1010+ offers the performance and flexibility that even the most demanding of small to medium sized business users want. The DS1010+ serves an average of 116+ MB/sec reading speed under RAID 5 configuration in a Windows environment, and 103+ MB/sec writing, says Cheen Liao, President of Synology America Corp. The web server responsiveness rate is remarkable, taking only 30.81 seconds to handle 1,000 simultaneous requests, Liao adds.
