File Transfer Testing

The previous pages of synthetic benchmarks looks great and makes it easy to compare performance, but what about real world testing?

SuperSpeed USB 3.0 File Copy Test

For this, we took a folder that contained 65 movies and weighed in at 23GB in size. We then drag and dropped them and timed how long it took for the transfer to complete.

Benchmark Results: On USB 2.0 it took 14 minutes 40 seconds to transfer over the 23GB folder from the primary SSD to the external drive. When we moved over to the USB 3.0 header the same exact file transfer took just 4 minutes 37 seconds! This is just a tad over a 3x improvement, which backs up what we saw in the previous synthetic benchmarks.
