Super Bowl XLV Fan Map – Be Sure To Vote!
Esri is known mostly for GIS (geographic information systems) mapping software, so when we got an e-mail from them this morning about their Super Bowl XLV fan map we were a bit shocked. It looks like the company has put together a map that allows you to vote by zip code for the Packers or Steelers. We just voted and the nationwide map has the Green Bay Packers leading the way with 66% of the votes. Be sure to vote for your pick! Click here to check out the map and to vote!
Esri is hosting a Super Bowl fan map, on http://thebiggame.esri.com/superbowl/. Created with ArcGIS Server and Flex, your vote will be instantly recorded in the database and displayed on the map. You can then use the map, the pie chart, and the data to find out if you are in Packers or Steelers territory. Have your students and family examine the resulting patterns and consider the value that maps bring to analysis. What is their hypothesis of the pattern in the country as a whole, and in specific regions? Some patterns are expected, but others are a bit puzzling. At the moment, Cleveland looks like it is Packers territory, despite its closer proximity to Pittsburgh.
