Sun Microsystems Inc., working to return to profitability after more than four years of losses, said it fired 200 workers in the group that makes the company’s most powerful computers, used to run corporate networks.

The job cuts represent 7 percent of the work force responsible for developing server computers built with the company’s SPARC processor, the company said Friday. The cuts are intended to ”lower our current level of operating expenses,” spokeswoman Stephanie Von Allmen said.
