Study: People Demand Supersized smartphones

By

There’s an old adage which says that bigger is better and this appears to hold true for smartphones as well. This appears to have been confirmed by a new study from Strategy Analytics called “Smartphone Owners Want Thin Devices with Larger Displays” which found that users from the US & UK prefer devices with displays in the 4 to 4.5 inch range, but the device must remain thin. The ladies were more likely to prefer slightly smaller sizes, however.

So, if the bigger is better trend continues, will we eventually see smartphones the size of tablets stuck to the side of people’s heads – as long as they are really skinny? Don’t answer.

“Almost 90 percent of existing smartphone owners surveyed chose a prototype smartphone with a display larger than their current device,” commented Paul Brown, a Director in the Strategy Analytics User Experience Practice. “This trend is driven by increased mobile web browsing capability, as well as engaging video and gaming experiences.”
