SteelSeries Launches Keyboards with Adjustable Actuation
Over the recent years, we have seen many different types of mechanical key switches to provide the best possible gaming experience for gamers. This year, we are excited to hear about the new Apex Pro gaming keyboard from SteelSeries. Not only does it come with RGB illumination, a USB pass-through port, and an aluminum frame, it also comes with an OLED Smart Display, a ten-keyless version, and the adjustable OmniPoint switches. These switches are rated at an insane 100 million clicks, which is twice as many compared to a standard Cherry MX switch!
The OmniPoint switches are the selling point to the Apex Pro. Unlike a traditional mechanical switch, the OmniPoint switch uses the Analog Hall Effect Magnetic Sensor. This technology determines how far the key is pressed. This also eliminates debounce time (known as input lag) to achieve a 0.7 milliseconds response time and an adjustable actuation distance between 0.4 and 3.6 millimeters.
Because everyone has their own opinion on how sensitive a switch should be, these OmniPoint switches are the solution to solving that problem. This gives the flexibility to customize the actuation distance of the switches to exactly what the user wants. Whether it is gaming or typing, the OLED display is a quick way to switch between modes.
On the SteelSeries Rival 700 gaming mouse several years ago, we saw that it had an OLED display. It was able to show game information, mouse settings, and custom images. We see a similar feature like that on the Apex Pro keyboard. This OLED display is capable of showing keyboard settings, changing profiles, and viewing on-the-fly updates. It will also be available on the Apex Pro TKL version.
Along with the announcement of the Apex Pro, SteelSeries has also announced the Apex 7 and Apex 7 TKL keyboard. Although they do not feature the OmniPoint switches, they do have the QX2 RGB switches. They come with the choice of red, blue, or brown and perform similar to Cherry MX switches. They also have the aluminum frame, OLED display, and a USB pass-through port for easy connectivity.
When it comes to pricing, the Apex 7 is cheaper than the Apex Pro as they do not feature the OmniPoint switches. The Apex 7 is set to hit the market at $159.99, while the Apex 7 TKL will be $129.99. As for the Apex Pro TKL, it will be $179.99, and the flagship Apex Pro will go for $199.99.
