Spring Design Alex eReader Review
Alex Use and Final Thoughts
The Alex eReader uses a google android operating system with lots of easy use applications like email, calculator and media player. The Alex eReader comes with a 2GB removable memory card to store all your books, pictures and music.
But this is an eReader so lets dive into that portion of this multifunctional device. You are given several options with this eReader when looking for ebooks, one of them being Google books and others that come as preloaded options. The downside to this eReader is that it is a little more difficult to get your titles with having to go through 3rd party services, unlike with the Nook or The Kindle that have their own bookstore. A couple of settings that go with the eReader is the ability to highlight a passage , record in your own voice your own thoughts or interpretation of that passage or even add a hyperlink. A marker will appear in the LCD display screen to remind you or any other reader that there is additional information relating to that text. The LCD screen does have a small virtual keyboard that can be used to type your search, however it might be harder to use with bigger fingers.
The Alex eReader is currently selling for $399 which is quite a larger price than some of the other readers with easier to get to titles and 3G capabilities. The nook for example with 3G and wifi is selling for $199.00 with the same EPD display and LCD display and easy to use library.
Legit Bottom Line: The Alex eReader has a good start but needs to modify a few key things like price, 3G capabilities and better access to ebooks to become a serious contender.
