SH241 Out of the Box

Inside the AT&T-themed box, SouthWing packs the SH241 with an AC Charger, multiple-colored covers, extra ear buds, and a headset cord for easy storage. SouthWing, like others has included everything you need to get up and going. We didnt even need to charge our unit out of the box as it was pre-charged and ready to go.

Pairing the headset was quick and easy as our suite of mobile devices the BlackBerry Curve, Treo 750, and Apple iPhone all detected and synced up with no problems at all. In fact, the first time you turn the headset on, it enters into a mode called Auto Pairing which takes the hassle out of set up. The SH241 has audible and visual indicators that let the user know the status of the pairing mode and also the status of the many other functions that this headset has.

Looking at the body, the three buttons on the headset are fairly well hidden. The up volume, down volume, and multi-function button are along the main side of the headset and are indicated with small bumps. Even the headset is designed to sit in the ear, SouthWing included a reversible ear hook that you can actually remove if you dont think you need it. My recommendation is that you will probably want to keep this attached to the headset since when you put the headset on, it fits kind of strangely.

On the bottom side, you will see the uni-directional microphone along with a clip you can use to help store the headset out of the way when you arent using it. Be careful though when using the clip since the ear hook will fall out when you engage the clip. Not exactly the best design.

As we told you earlier, SouthWing includes three different sizes of ear buds to make your fit as comfortable as possible. The headset sits far down in your ear so that a sort-of vacuum is created to block out unwanted noise. With this design, the SouthWing SH241 produces some of the loudest volume we have heard from a Bluetooth headset.

The SH241 comes out of the box with the Whisper Mode on so there is really nothing you need to do set this up. If you dont want to use this feature, all you have to do is hold down both volume buttons until the headset says whisper off. Setting up the speed dial, er, Push4 feature was easy as well: When you dial a number and you want to make it your favorite, just hold the multi-function button down along with the Volume Up button and that number will be stored in the SH241. Anytime you want to dial this number, you just have to hold down the multi-function button for 1 second and your mobile device will dial the number.
