Sony Just Announced New Full-Frame Camera: Sony 9

Those of us who follow news on enthusiast-grade cameras or photography have probably heard at least a whiff of the new Sony 9. It’s their latest addition to Sony’s mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras, following the recent release of the Sony 6500 (their newest APS-C model). Previously, Sony was on the 7 series of full-frame mirrorless cameras and although Sony still isn’t as recognized in the camera industry, it’s still surely able to turn heads and compete well with other camera companies.

As the newest flagship model, the Sony 9 will feature the beloved full-frame 35mm CMOS sensor with incredibly fast autofocus speeds. The camera can shoot at up to 20 fps with a shutter speed of 1/32000 a second. The camera’s ISO (lens sensitivity) reaches 204,800 which is great for low light performance. Luckily, for those of us with shaky hands, the Sony 9 comes equipped with their 5 axis IBIS (in-body image stabilization) that will reduce blur from movement during taking photos or the instability during filming videos.

The features are great but it’s going to cost you if you plan on picking up one of these mirrorless cameras. You have to be willing to drop $4,499.99 USD (before taxes) to get one of these — and that’s just the body itself. One of the problems with owning any of the newer Sony mirrorless cameras is the selection of lenses. Sony itself doesn’t produce many lenses aside from some kit lenses, and a few prime lenses (such as the 50mm and newly released 85mm), so many users stick to those or move on to third party lenses. This proves to be problematic for those of us who want one of the cameras in Sony’s Alpha lineup but don’t want to settle another brand, but until Sony produces more lenses in their line-up, the fans will have to make due.
