Sony is Closing PlayStation Vue in January
Sony has announced that PlayStation Vue has only a few more months before it will be shuttered forever. PS Vue will shut down on January 30, 2020. Sony had shopped the service around for a buyer, but apparently, there were no takers.
PS Vue has been a money loser for Sony since it launched in 2015. Rising costs have angered users, as Sony tried to pass on cost increases to customers repeatedly. Even with price increases, the service wasn’t a moneymaker reports The Verge.
Sony wrote, “Unfortunately, the highly competitive Pay TV industry, with expensive content and network deals, has been slower to change than we expected. Because of this, we have decided to remain focused on our core gaming business,” Sony said. “PlayStation fans can continue to access movie and TV content through the PlayStation Store on PS4 and via our partnerships with top entertainment apps.”
Cord cutters out to save money with services like PS Vue have found that they are often lured in by high prices only to see the price increase. PS Vue wasn’t much cheaper than some cable plans after price hikes, it’s entry-level plan was $50 monthly. At its most popular, it had about 500,000 subscribers.
