Seagate BarraCuda Pro 10TB HDD Review
Free Space and Final Thoughts
Taking a look at the capacity of the empty Seagate BarraCuda Pro 10TB hard drive properties in Windows we see that there is 9.09TB available to the user as reported by Windows.
Final Thoughts:
It’s been some time we’ve looked a a consumer 3.5″ hard drive, but we are glad that we were able to take a look at the first 10TB consumer hard drive. This is also our first time getting to try out a Helium filled drive and we have to say that we are impressed. The fact that hard drive manufactures are offering 10TB drives now is great as it should be more than enough to store your photos, movies and other file archives. Overall performance of the drive was impressive as we were able to hit speeds of 246 MB/s read and 236 MB/s write in ATTO’s sequential file benchmark. Those are pretty impressive numbers as were the latency numbers that were under 32ms for both 4K read and writes.
When it comes to pricing you are looking at $508.99 shipped from Amazon. That puts you right around $0.05 per GB or $50.90 per TB. We’ve never done TB pricing before, but it looks like we are at a point in time that it would be acceptable to switch. The ‘old’ Seagate Desktop HDD 8TB (ST8000DM002) is backed by just a 2-year warranty and runs $299.00 shipped ($37.38 per TB), so there is a price premium to be had on the largest capacity drive on the market.
If you are looking for a new ultra-capacity hard drive we highly suggest giving the new Seagate Guardian series a closer look. We can’t talk about the longevity of the drive, but it is backed by a 5-year warranty and that should give you some comfort!
The Seagate BarraCuda Pro 10TB today looks great and easily gets our recommended award.
Legit Bottom Line: The Seagate BarraCuda Pro 10TB is the largest desktop hard drive that you can buy today and the performance is great for a rotational drive.
