This is probably one of the simplest and most inexpensive hardware devices you can add to your computer. The setup takes all of one step – plug it in.

The Satechi aluminum four port USB 2.0 hub does match nicely with MacBooks as the image above displays. The cord is a decent length, not too short or long, is rather flexible, and is shielded to prevent interference.

The overall length of the hub is around 3.5″ so it’s plenty small enough to carry around and weighs almost nothing at just under 2 oz. It can’t really be considered inexpensive at $27.99 when compared to some other 4 port hubs. However, it’s not exorbitant if you are all about appearance and like things to match, you’ll probably pony up the extra few bucks.

The tough part is fitting multiple drives in the hub. While we were able to find four from the stash of thumb drives we have on hand, we had plenty more to choose from that would have blocked one or more adjacent ports. Odds are you won’t be using it to connect four thumb drives though. As we noted in the performance section, we didn’t encounter any degradation in performance from using the hub versus a bare drive which is important. We should also note that the hub is powered solely by the USB connection so connecting multiple devices or devices such as an iPad may cause a power shortage for the attached devices to charge or operate properly. Overall, no complaints and that’s what we expected from the start.

Legit Bottom Line: If you have the burning need to add extra USB 2.0 ports and want something that complements the design of your Mac computer, look no further than the Satechi Premium Aluminum 4 Port USB 2.0 hub.
