Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 OC 3GB Video Card Review
By
Just Cause 2
Just Cause 2 is a sandbox style action video
game developed by Swedish developer Avalanche Studios and Eidos Interactive, published by Square Enix. It is the sequel to the 2006 video game, Just Cause.
Just Cause 2 employs a new version of the Avalanche Engine,
Avalanche Engine 2.0, which is an updated version of the engine used in Just Cause. The game will be set on the other side of the world, compared to Just Cause, which is on the fictional tropical island of Panau in Southeast Asia. Rico Rodriguez will return as the protagonist, aiming to overthrow the evil dictator Pandak “Baby” Panay and confront his former boss, Tom Sheldon.
Benchmark Results: Just Cause 2 is one of those game titles that AMD has made driver improvements on over the past five months. This is one of the reasons why you see the SAPPHIRE HD 7970 OC 3GB beating the MSI R7970 Lighting 3GB in this benchmark. The SAPPHIRE HD 7970 OC 3GB was run using CATALYST 12.7 drivers and the MSI R7970 Lightning was run using CATALYST 12.2 drivers on the same machine. It looks like we need to update all of our cards again as the difference between CATALYST 12.2 and CATALYST 12.7 drivers is rather large in many game titles. For example we did some testing on the SAPPHIRE HD 7970 OC and at 1280×1024 got 88.90 FPS on Catalyst 12.2 drivers and when we updated to Catalyst 12.7 drivers the scores shot up to 91.65 FPS. That may not sound like much, but that 3 FPS difference really changes the dynamics of our performance charts as the results are so close together!
