Sapphire HD7970 Toxic 6GB On The Way

By

oclab.ru have tested yet another variant of the popular AMD Radeon HD 7970 graphics card. This one is aimed firmly at the enthusiast tweaker who doesn’t just want to stick it in a case and forget about it.

This card features an enormous 6GB of GDDR5 implemented as 24 chips, 8+3 VRM phases, LEDs to show VRM phase status, two 8-pin power connectors and a stylish twin 80mm fan heatpipe cooler. The card is factory overclocked with the GPU running at 1150MHz (default 925MHz) and the memory at 6GHz effective (default 5.5GHz effective).

oclab.ru had a quick go at overclocking the card and reached a GPU clock of 1.3GHz, with an impressive memory speed of 7.6GHz effective. The card scored 12463 points in the 3DMark Performance test. Quite what one would do with 6GB of video memory isn’t clear, as 3GB is already overkill. Answers on a postcard to the usual address, please. Lots more pictures at the link below.
