How To Secure Erase The Samsung SM951 NVMe SSD

The Samsung SM951-NVMe SSD is an OEM SSD and from we have been told, will not be supported by the Samsung Magician Software Utility. This means there won’t be an easy to use utility out there that will allow you to secure erase the Samsung SM951 NVMe drive. We tried the latest build of Parted Magic and all the other common programs and nothing worked. Frustrating after using the Intel SSD 750 series and being able to secure erase the drives using the Intel SSD Toolbox in Windows with the click of a button!

Format NVM

The good news is that one can use the ‘Format NVM Command’ to do a manual low level format of the NVMe drive. Samsung believes that an OEM, enthusiasts or any tech savvy programmer can write a program to run the needed script from the command line using a Linux computer.
