With a memory market that is seeing RAM prices at their lowest point in years, memory manufacturers have to take the extra step to ensure they are being as competitive as possible. Samsung is doing just that with their latest 8GB (2x4GB) dual channel kit of DDR3. Some of you have probably already heard about the specific kit we are looking at today, the Samsung Ultra Low Voltage 8GB DDR3 1600MHz 1.35v dual channel memory kit. Available at just $49.99 Samsung designed this kit to be used by those who want to save as much power as possible, yet still have a reliable memory solution. These sticks even feature a lifetime warranty through Samsung.
The front of the packaging tells us that this ultra-low voltage kit from Samsung operates at a default frequency of 1600MHz with timings of 11-11-11-27 at 1.35v. One of their more unique features is that they are engineered on the 30nm fabrication technology, which not only means they use less power, but they also generate less heat. Samsung even claims that their 30nm technology uses 47% less power than traditional 60nm DDR2/DDR3.
Flipping the package over we see a chart that has various speeds, with their according CAS latencies and overall timings. We also see that again these are 30nm sticks, and the kit is a 2x4GB Dual Channel Kit. We also see that this kit carries a lifetime warranty.
Once we get the packaging removed we found two low profile sticks as well as a product information slip. This simply listed the model number of our RAM and its default frequencies and timings. These sticks are only about as tall as the clips on your DIMM slots on your motherboard. They are very low profile.
Here you can see exactly how low profile these Samsung modules actually are. The comparison stick is a standard height DDR module. You can see the Samsung stick is almost half the height of a normal module, or just about 3/4 of an inch tall.
As you can see our modules are made in Korea, and are part number M373V5273DH0-YK0 1134. We can see that this is a 4GB module, that runs at 12800 Speeds at 11-11 timings. We also see that these are part of Samsung’s “Green DDR3” family.
