Rumor: Western Digital To Release 5TB Desktop Hard Drive in 2013

By

According to what looks like a Western Digital roadmap, the storage drive company will be introducing 5TB internal 3.5″ desktop hard drives in Q4 2013 if all goes as planned. The Russian website Always More Digital posted up the slides showing both WD Green and WD Red brand lines as having 5TB drives under model number WD50EZRX (green) and WD50EFRX (red). Both drives will be using the 3.5-inch form factor, SATA III 6Gbps interface and have 64 MB of cache. Legit Reviews asked WD to comment on this news and they declined. Who knows if the slides are real, but common sense would lead us to assume so. The slides show 4TB desktop hard drives coming in the second half of 2013 as well.
