Rumor: Flagship GK110-Based GeForce GTX 780 Due This Year!

By

It’s well-known that NVIDIA is preparing the upcoming flagship Kepler GK110-based GPU to be used in the K20 Tesla card aimed at professional HPC applications. However, rumours now have it that NVIDIA are also preparing their next flagship gaming graphics card based on this GPU, the GeForce GTX 780, for release this year! Note that it’s possible that NVIDIA may use a different GeForce name for the final product.

While it’s not clear that the version of the GK110 used in the GTX 780 will be exactly the same, it’s hoped that NVIDIA won’t chop much out of it or anything at all, in order to bring the card down to a (semi) affordable price point. Basic specs of the GK110 are: 28nm manufacturing process, 7.1 billion transistors, 384-bit memory interface, 15 SMX units with 192 CUDA Cores each, making for a total of 2880 CUDA Cores. Needless to say, benchmark scores of production cards are expected to be fantastic and they may well take the single-GPU performance crown once again.
