Rosewill Capstone 750W Power Supply Review
Rosewill Capston PSU Review Conclusion
It is clear that the Capstone 750W marks a more than fair attempt of Rosewill, a new player on the global market, to create a
high quality and performance power supply. By approaching a very reputable OEM
as Super Flower is, the company managed to place a truly high performance power
supply with their own brand name on the store shelves.
Overall, the performance of the
Capstone 750W is unexpectedly good, considering it is one of the first high performance power supplies that Rosewill released and the fact that the company is usually aiming for maximum value instead of top performance.
Aside from the high electrical efficiency, which we could expect from a power
supply bearing the 80Plus Gold certification, the 750W version of the Capstone
also delivers excellent electrical performance, with tight voltage regulation
and excellent ripple suppression. The high efficiency is also responsible for
the low operating temperatures, as very little power is wasted as heat during
the conversion from A/C to D/C.
Another strong selling point of the
Rosewill Capstone 750W unit is the very high quality of the power supply. With
Super Flower as an OEM Rosewill ensured the excellent assembly quality of the
unit and thus, alongside with the fine choice of high quality components, the
power supply we reviewed today has nothing to be jealous about when compared to
other classy 750W units. However, the Capstone is not without flaws; this power
supply has no unique features at all and only the grainy dark paint job keeps it
from being mistaken for a cheap generic unit when it comes to aesthetics. It would be nice to see some unique features or at least something visually different to make this PSU series stand out from a crowded PSU market.
Value
for money is supposed to be the best feature of such a product. Without a
doubt, the price of $114.99
plus shipping is great for an 80Plus Gold certified unit, making the
Capstone even perhaps the second lowest priced 750W 80Plus Gold certified unit
currently available. The only problem is that the cheapest unit is no other
than the Capstone-750-M, the modular version of the same power supply which is
currently being offered for $99.99
including shipping at the time of this review! We are not sure if Rosewill understands what
“internal competition” stands for or why they even placed the modular version on sale at a price lower than that of the standard version, but we know for a fact that no sane
person will purchase the standard over the modular version of the identical power
supply even if the price is similar, let alone when the modular version is over $15 cheaper. As long as the sale stands, it is no brainer that every user should opt for the modular version of the unit.
Legit Bottom Line: The Rosewill
Capstone 750W power supply is a high quality and competitive product, the
performance of which will not leave any user disappointed. Only the simplistic
appearance of this power supply could turn away potential buyers who are
seeking something morevisually stimulating. Still, the low price tag combined
with the great overall performance and long warranty created a product with
fantastic value for money.
