Reportedly No 4G Network For Impending Verizon iPhone
Many are exuberant at the thought of a Verizon carried iPhone that is all but assured to release in Q1 of 2011. Surely a significant number of those are also expecting or at least hoping for compatibility with Verizon’s and possibly AT&T’s 4G networks. Not gonna happen – according to TechCrunch. With limited coverage areas and slow deployment of the 4G networks, this may not be such bad news.
First things first the iPhone CDMA model due in January wont support LTE. But heres where it gets really interesting: sources tell me that the iPhone refresh in mid-2011 wont support LTE either. Instead, Apple will produce a dual mode iPhone containing 3G flavors of GSM and CDMA, which operates on all carriers worldwide. If this holds true, Apple wont support the LTE standard until some time in 2012.
