Rechargeable Surface Pen Tipped in FCC Documents
Microsoft is set for a Surface hardware event early next month, and ahead of that event, some rumors are making the rounds that hint at some of what we might see. Some of these rumors are thanks to FCC documents that have turned up. One of the items that the FCC tipped is a new version of the Surface Pen.
The new Surface Pen has one significant difference compared to the current Surface Pen, and that is wireless charging. The current Surface Pen has a battery inside that has to be replaced now and then. The new Surface Pen will charge wirelessly.
That new pen will come with some sort of new charging method from the Surface Pro 7 that is expected to debut at the event. The assumption is that the pen will charge when it clips to the side of the Surface Pro 7 as the current pen does.
Speculation suggests that the move to wireless charging means the pen has new capabilities that draw more power reports Forbes. One mystery is how the new pen might charge when used with Surface devices lacking wireless charging capability. The assumption is some sort of portable charger that connects to the notebook.
