Razer Kraken 7.1 Chroma Gaming Headset Review
Looking around the Razer Kraken 7.1 Chroma
The Razer Kraken 7.1 Chroma is a full sized cirumaural headset. It enters the Kraken lineup and the new Chroma lineup as Razers first multicolor RGB LED headset.
The Kraken headsets are almost entirely constructed from plastic in different colors depending on the model. The Kraken 7.1 Chroma is entirely black, broken by the green Razer type logo on the top of the headband, the illuminated white tip on the microphone, and the RGB lit Razer snakes logo on the outside of each earcup.
This headset connects to computers through USB to power and control the RGB LEDs and built-in audio processor.
The adjustable headband has painted marks which look like a fake track. The length locking mechanism is in the center padded piece of the headband.
The green Razer typelogo makes an ostentatious appearance on the outer side of the headband.
The earpads are foam padded and wrapped with plastic leather that give as much of a tight seal from outside noise as well as distributing the high headband clamping pressure. The inner side of the headband is lined with a layer of memory foam covered by meshed cloth.
The retractable and flexible microphone extends from the left earcrup up to about 4.5 inches measured from the tip. Muting the microphone in the operating system or from Synapse turns off the white LED light at the tip of the boom.
A characteristic feature of the Razer Kraken headsets is the ability to fold the earcups inward.
Opening in the right earcup, we see mostly empty space between the enclosure and the back side of the driver. We also see several wires that connect the LED and driver to the right earcup.
The space inside the right earcup holds the retractable microphone and the headset circuit board.
Further disassembly reveals the circuit board components.
The heart and soul of the Kraken 7.1 Chroma is a Conexant CX20774 combo digital stereo sound processor and RGB LED controller.
