Razer Announces The Electra V2 Headset – Economical 7.1 Surround Sound
Razer’s Latest Headset Takes Aim At The Value PC and Console Gaming Segment
Our last post about Razer products was in regards to their latest high end Blade Stealth Laptop and Core V2 External Graphics Adapter. Razer covers every segment imaginable, though, including the budget PC gaming headset space. In a decision to bring a new, low cost surround sound headset to both PC and console gamers, Razer has announced the Electra V2, which is available with either a 3.5mm analog connection ($59.99) or USB connector ($69.99). The Electra V2 features an aluminum headband with unibody frame and are outfitted with Razer’s trademark green and black color scheme, with the Razer snake logo on each earcup and “RAZER” stamped into the leatherette headband. The base model Razer Electra V2 is available at $59.99 and comes with a 3.5mm analog connector that makes it compatible with a variety of devices, including mobile phones and console. Since the surround sound functionality of the Electra V2 is provided through Razer Surround Software, it won’t be available on consoles and mobile devices, only on Windows PC’s. Razer Surround software is actually compatible with any Windows PC and is freely available from Razer, so you don’t need the Electra V2 to try it out with your current stereo headset.
A USB version of the Razer Electra V2 headset is available for $69.99 and has a built-in sound card, which will ensure optimal, clear surround sound that won’t be potentially limited by onboard sound. The Razer Electra V2 USB also brings PS4 and and MAC support over USB. The USB connection over PS4 should sound much better than the 3.5mm analog connection provided by the controller, which suffers from low sound quality output, so the $10 premium of the Electra V2 USB will probably be worth it to console gamers.
What do you think of the Electra V2? Do they look like a quality entry into the budget headset arena currently dominated by players like Astro?
