Raspberry Pi Suffers Production Problems

By

It wasn’t to long ago that the Raspberry Pi was making waves for what it could do considering its miniscule size. Sadly, there has been a production issue, namely the ethernet jacks soldered to the boards are lacking integrated magnetics. This sourcing issue from the manufacturer leaves the Raspberry Pi without networking connectivity, and it affects all units in the first batch of production. The fix is fairly simple, requiring nothing more then desoldering the old ethernet jack and replacing it with a new part. The major problem with the current fix is finding enough stock to replace the affected units and enter production with the next batch. The issue will soon be completely rectified on the first batch, with units shipping soon after. The fate of subsequent batches hinges on the team’s ability to source new ethernet jacks.

Rasberry Pi Ethernet Jacks

There may now be a slight delay in later batches if theres a problem sourcing enough magnetic jacks (weve got teams hunting them down already); all the stock of jacks we believed we had in place and ready to turn into the ethernet ports on your Raspberry Pis turn out not to be the correct part, so were having to start again and move through the negotiating/ordering/delivery cycle as fast as we can.
