Qualcomm Outs Snapdragon 636 Mobile Platform

Qualcomm has unveiled a new mobile processor called the Snapdragon 636 and promises that the platform has high-end features inside. Features include Qualcomm spectra ISP that supports video capture of up to 24MP with no shutter lag, smooth zoom, fast autofocus, and accurate colors with a 14-bit Spectra 160 ISP inside. The CPU portion of the SoC is a Kryo 260 promising up to 40% higher performance than the Snapdragon 630.

The SoC also has an X12 LTE modem promising 2x faster LTE download speeds to support improved streaming of audio and video content. The SoC supports a large range of cellular technologies with Snapdragon All mode, LTE FDD, LTE TDD, LTE Broadcast, WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, CDMA 1x, EV-DO, and GSM/Edge.

It has all the features you expect to see in a modern SoC with WiFi supporting everything up to 802.11ac Wave 2 at 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Other features include Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo, QZSS, and SBAS. The SoC supports geofencing and tracking, NC, RF, USB 3.1, up to 4K video capture at 30fps and 1080p at 120fps.

Smartphones using the SoC can have screens up to FHD+ 18:9 resolution and the chip supports up to 1080p external displays. High-end audio is supported and the CPU can run at up to 1.8GHz on each of the eight cores. Qualcomm integrates a Hexagon 680 DSP and an Adreno 509 GPU. Qualcomm Quick Charge tech is supported along with Qualcomm Processor Security, application security, and smart camera. The SoC supports up to 8GB of 1333MHz dual-channel LPDDR4 RAM.
