Everything is getting AI and voice assistant integration today and Qualcomm has announced tech that aims to make it easier for manufacturers to roll Amazon Alexa into earbuds and other devices. Qualcomm has announced the industry’s first qualified end-to-end Bluetooth Smart Headset reference design.

This design has push button support for Alexa for users of Android phones that have the Alexa app. The reference design is based on Qualcomm’s QCC5100-series Bluetooth audio chip. This reference design has “virtually” all the key hardware and software needed to help with the development of advanced Bluetooth headsets.

This is the first reference design with integrated support for the Alexa Mobile Accessory Kit protocol that runs over Bluetooth. The Bluetooth connection allows audio devices to connect with Alexa via the Alexa app. The reference design is available now with no word on when consumer devices using it might hit the market.

“Qualcomm Technologies Internationals headset reference design provides manufacturers with a simple way to build rich, voice-forward experiences into hearable devices,” said Priya Abani, Director of the Alexa Voice Service. “Were excited to have a solution that will help our customers to bring Alexa with them wherever they go.”
