QuakeCon 2012 Opens Today in Dallas
QuakeCon 2012 begins today in Dallas, Texas to celebrate electronic gaming and the people who play them. QuakeCon will run through August 5th, 2012 and will feature what is billed as North America’s largest BYOC (or Bring-Your-Own-Computer) LAN party, convention panels from superstar gaming industry professionals – including John Carmack, and a variety of contests with more than $150,000 in prize money. Unlike many other conventions, admission to QuakeCon 2012 is free and open to the public. With major sponsorships coming from the likes of AT&T, Alienware, Bethesda Software, and others, QuakeCon 2012 should be a perfect way to end the summer.
QuakeCon 2012 kicks off today with a welcome address by id Softwares Todd Hollenshead and Bethesda Softworks Pete Hines which will lead directly into a keynote address given by John Carmack, co-founder and technical director of id Software. In addition to the keynote, this years QuakeCon will host a number of panels featuring prominent members of the interactive entertainment industry. Attendees will be able to check out panels such as The Game of Making Games, Designing Multiplayer Games That Last, GTTVs Bonus Round, and Idle Thumbs Podcast Live: Arena. Panelists will include Chet Faliszek and Tom Leonard from Valve Software, Geoff Keighley, host of Spikes GTTV, Blair Herter, host of G4TVs X-Play, Marty Stratton from id Software and Ted Price, President and CEO of Insomniac Games.
