QNAP TS-419P Turbo NAS 4-Bay Network Storage Review
QNAP TS-419P Installing the drives
The next step was to install the hard drives. I pulled out the drive trays and proceeded to install the drives. The drive trays are setup for use with 3.5 inch drives as well as 2.5 inch drives making this unit quite versatile.
I decided to install four Seagate 500GB 3.5″ hard drives and configure them in a RAID-5 array. This will give me 1.3TB of usuable storage and redundancy.
The QNAP has the ability to expand the RAID size so if I ever decided to get some 1.5TB drives, all the data will be kept and seamlessly moved to the newly installed hard drives no need to turn off the server during this process. In fact, if I wanted to upgrade the RAID level from RAID-5 to RAID-6, the QNAP give me the ability to migrate on-the-fly without losing uptime on the server. The QNAP TS-419P is really packed with every bell and whistle that your home or small office would need for a storage solution. Im sure I wont use all of the functions, but its good to know that they are available.
