Proview On The Warpath, Seeks Apple iPad Export Ban
Proview Shenzhen is on the warpath against Apple, planning to continue their aggressive stance as the battle over the iPad trademark continues. This time Proview is seeking an export ban on the iPad, which would effect Apple on an international scale, as all iPads are assembled in China. Ironically, this is made possible under laws originally enacted to prevent sales of Chinese counterfeit products and goods. These laws have given Proview the ability to demand the seizure and ban on exports of the Apple iPad. With officials already seizing iPads in Hebei, Proview is also requesting that the Administration Industry and Commerce (AIC) enact similar confiscations in 30 other cities. Proview, already deep in debt and facing severe financial troubles, may yet receive the US $1.586 billion it has been seeking in damages.
Ironically, Proview is able to demand the seizure and ban on export of iPads under laws enacted to prevent the sale of Chinese counterfeit goods including clothing, movies, and music. The company is also facing financial troubles, with deep debts meaning that it could be seeking a large settlement from Apple to help stay afloat.
