Prolimatech Super Mega CPU Cooler Review
The LR Intel Core i7-930 Test System
We have updated the test system. The old configuration was starting to show its age (mainly the GPU, Case and Power Supply that were all over or pushing 3 years old). So we here at LR decided it was time for an upgrade. We did upgrades similar to what most middle of the road users would do. We upgraded the case, power supply, GPU, and the CPU. We are keeping the same RAM, motherboard, and drives. We upgraded the OS to Windows 7 Professional 64Bit and moved up to current versions of Prime95 and CoreTemp. We also changed the thermal paste that we used for testing, as well. You can see the specs of the old system here.
In the past we have used Arctic Silver Lumiere due to it having a zero cure time, in lieu of something like Arctic Silver 5 that requires 200 hours of cure and multiple power cycles. Now we have switched to Gelid GC Extreme thermal paste. The GC Extreme is also a zero cure TIM, but also one of the top performing pastes at the moment and one that anyone can get. I will continue to use ArctiClean two part cleaning solution for cooler and CPU prep.

Test procedure
To test the coolers the system will be left idle at the desktop for 30 minutes and the temp recorded. Then it will run at full load with Prime95 Blended test for 30 minutes and the temperature will be recorded. There will be 3 levels tested with our Core i7-930 clocked at a stock 2.8 GHz, mild OC of 3.5 GHz, and high OC of 4.0 GHz. All temps will be recorded with CoreTemp, and the temp reading from all 4 cores will be averaged. The thermal paste used on all coolers will be Gelid GC Extreme.
