Project Scorpio Specs Revealed, Packs 6 Teraflops of Computing Power
Microsoft has revealed the specs for the Project Scorpio console and they sound very good for gamers looking forward to the console. The specs are much better than the current Xbox One console and gives Xbox fans the ability to fight on even ground with the PS4 Pro game console. The first thing you want to know about Project Scorpio is that the console has 6 teraflops of computing power. Compare that to the Xbox One’s 1.31 teraflops of power and you see what an improvement the new console will be.
The PS4 Pro has a comparatively small 4.2 teraflops of compute power. Project Scorpio is also said to have a greater focus on 1080p resolution, the Xbox One had 900p focus, always an issue for some gamers. Microsoft supports DirectX 12 across the console hardware promising to cut CPU workload in half on supported games.
The biggest feature specs wise is the processor that runs the show called the Scorpio Engine. That chip is an SoC measuring 360mm square and combines the CPU, GPU, and AV processors into one bit of hardware. That chip is an updated version of the Jaguar in the current console. The Scorpio Engine has eight cores and a 4MB cache with a 2.3GHz clock speed. Native 4K is said to be possible with the chip and the chip can upscale non-4k native content as well.
Graphics performance is supposed to be close to that you would get from a GTX 1070 and Fury X-Class GPUs. All this hardware marks one of the first times that a console has been able to challenge a mid-range gaming PC according to Cgmagonline. Project Scorpio is supposed to land in Q4 2017.
