Prey 2 Delayed By Contract Negotiation, New Developer Could Take Helm

By

While Prey 2 was never officially canceled, it seems the secretive delay was caused by contract negotiations between Zenimax Media and Human Head studios according to a Shack News source. Human Head, which was developing the title, stopped work on the game back in November in order to work out a more favorable deal with ZeniMax which fell apart in January. On March 1st things were looking good with the dev team feeling they would return to work on the title, only for it to all fall apart the next day. Information on the delay is a still a bit cloudy, but the official stance is that “the delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and that the game does not currently meet quality standards” What ZeniMax intends to do with the game is still up in the air, but considering the work that has been completed thus far it would seem likely a new developer will be brought in to finish Prey 2. This wouldnt be the first time ZeniMax Media has switched developers on a title, a similar switch took place with Rogue Warrior which was transfered from Zombie Studios to Rebellion back in 2009. At this point there is no clear info on what will happen to Prey 2, gamers looking forward to it will have to hope it doesn’t get shelved in the coming months.

In light of the new information, the official stance that “the delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards” seems to throw Human Head under the creative bus. With development stalled for months, it’s no surprise that the game would be unable to meet so-called “quality standards.”
