Pokemon Go Passes a Billion Downloads

Pokemon Go has been quite the success story for the gang over at Niantic. Usually, the devs don’t talk much about the popularity of the game, but they have given up some details on the game that shed light on just how popular it is. Since Pokemon Go launched, it has racked up over a billion downloads.

The news of the downloads comes from a new trailer for the game that landed in Japan this week. A billon download is a lot of people, but the number doesn’t equate to active players. Even if only half that number of downloads are active players, it’s still quite the feat.

The game has waned in popularity some since it launched, but still has lots of fans. One interesting way to think about the number of downloads, according to Nintendo Life, is to think of all who downloaded as their own country.

If they were their own country, they would be the third most populous in the world, behind India and China. The game recently celebrated its third birthday.
