PlayStation CEO Says PS5 at Least 3 Years Away
PlayStation CEO John Kodera has just crushed the dreams of PlayStation fans. Rumors have been swirling that the next PlayStation console could land this year. Other rumors have suggested that 2020 is the year for the PS5 to bow in.
According to Kodera, the next PlayStation console is at least three years away, putting it at 2021. “We will use the next three years to prepare the next step, to crouch down so that we can jump higher in the future,” Kodera said. That statement came from a recent interview reports Polygon.
One tidbit that Kodera did offer about the PS5 is that subscriptions and online services will play a bigger role in the device. He said, “We need to depart from the traditional way of looking at the console life cycle. Were no longer in a time when you can think just about the console or just about the network like theyre two different things.”
Kodera also noted that the market for the PlayStation Vue online service and its business model are uncertain. In other words, no one is subscribing. If the PS5 lands in 2021 that would mark an 8-year gap between console launches.
