Paul Otellini, Former Intel CEO, Passes Away in Sleep at 66
Intel announced yesterday that the companys former CEO Paul Otellini passed away in his sleep Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, at the age of 66. Paul Otellini joined Intel in 1974 and spent well over 30 years with the company. Paul Otellini became Intels fifth chief executive officer in 2005. Under his leadership the revenue generated by the company went from $34 billion to $53 billion in 2012 before his retirement in 2013. Not bad for the company’s first CEO who didn’t have an engineering background.
We are deeply saddened by Pauls passing, current Intel CEO Brian Krzanich said in a statement. He was the relentless voice of the customer in a sea of engineers, and he taught us that we only win when we put the customer first.
After he retired in 2013, Otellini dedicated time to mentoring young people and being involved with several philanthropic and charitable organizations, including the San Francisco Symphony and San Francisco General Hospital Foundation.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to Otellini’s family, friends and all those that he worked with during his time at Intel. Another person gone too soon and we are glad we had the pleasure of working with him while he worked at Intel from 2002-2013.
