Panasonic and NHK Announce 145 inch 8K Plasma Display

By

Digital displays just keep getting ever more extreme. Here, we have Panasonic announcing a collaboration with NHK to produce a huge 145 inch plasma display, sporting an equally huge resolution of 8K, translating to 7680×4320 pixels in a standard widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio. This resolution is called “Super Hi-Vision” in Japan. Being plasma, it is expected to have vivid, lifelike pictures, with zero motion smear, very similar to the CRT images of old, but with none of the disadvantages. However, large plasma displays tend to flicker, but Panasonic and NHK claim to have solved this problem by using a new drive method. There are no pictures of the display, yet. Fast FPS gaming on this screen would be undoubtedly awesome…

While no images of the new display have turned up, it should make a great canvas for footage from NHK’s 120fps 8K sensor at the NHK Science and Research Laboratorys open house at the end of May.
